A lot of people claim to be educated. In my mind, an educated person is someone who doesn’t only poses book smarts or street smarts, but also can comprehend certain things for them selves without being told or shown. I’m not saying that one of these are more important than each other, all I’m stating is that an educated person thinks this way.
Going to school is very important. It gives young people a mostly safe place to go. I said mostly safe because, no place is completely safe. One thing people need to remember is that something bad can happen anywhere. If anything showed us that, it should’ve been 9-11. The U.S. is supposed to be the untouchable super power that’s citizens are safe from foreign attack on its own soil. If a student or any other person wants to harm someone else in school, at the bus stop, or anywhere else, it’s going to happen. I feel that an educated person should know this. Going to school is only half the battle, to better yourself mentally and financially you need to learn as much as you can, and at least get your diploma if not more. This is what I mean by being book smart.
Being street smart is just as important as being book smart, because you are only at home or school for a certain amount of time, and on the streets for the rest. When I say streets some people get nervous and think I’m telling people they should break the law, sell drugs, and whatever else they can come up with. I’m not saying anything like that. What I’m saying is that an educated person knows their environment and how to survive in it. You don’t have to actually participate in these actions to know what’s going on like, who to watch, what to look out for, and anything else to know to survive in your area.
The comprehension part of the knowledge an educated person has is the ability to know the things I haven’t spoken on like, the things you and your friends automatically know without having to say anything to each other. Some people might call it ESP, but I wouldn’t call it that, I call it knowing people, their unpredictability, and being an educated person.
