In my life span of only 18 years I have had to do my fair share of rebelling, whether it be against my parents, my friends, or my school. I haven’t had to rebel against the government, yet. I think the longest rebellion I had to take part in was about curfew. The reason I say that this was the longest because it was a two-part rebellion and I wasn’t a lone in this battle.
First, it started out against my parent and their “whack” curfew. Okay, I guess I’m biased on this subject, but it wasn’t whack, it was just too early. My friends and I were night people, but our parents wanted us in before dark on a regular bases. This was basically right after the streetlights came on and some of us had to be in before the lights came on. We weren’t gone abide by this for too long. The summer right after we got out of the 6th grade we started coming in later and later on a regular bases, and nothing our parents did could persuade us. The grounding and physical punishments were nothing to us because we would just sneak out that night and be out on the block with rest of the fellas.
After we won the war on curfews with our parents and they stopped tripping because they knew we were safe, and out of trouble, for the most part until we found out that the county had an 11:30 curfew for everybody under 17. This didn’t scare us, if anything it made us mad because, if our parents let us stay out, how can someone we don’t even know or care about, tell us when to go in the house. We didn’t care and still don’t care or like the police, I know they probably didn’t like us too much either. As a matter of fact, they probably hated us because we ran for fun when they used to come after us, especially the curfew police. It was fun for two simple reasons, we didn’t have anything better to do and they couldn’t catch us. This rebellion is over now though, simply because we’re all of legal age, and for the most part no one can tell us what to do or they can try but we aint gone listen.
